ROHAN Jones

Over 14 years of experience teaching film production and performance, including at the tertiary level since 2014. Most recently, I am a sessional lecturer at Deakin University and have previously taught at RMIT University, The Victorian College of the Arts, Film and Television Studio International, and the Footscray Community Arts Centre. Experience teaching Masters Film & TV students, supervising Honours students, teaching seminars, delivering lectures, marking and providing feedback on assignments at undergraduate and postgraduate level. 

Recognised at Deakin University in 2018 for delivering an Excellent Teaching Result in the unit Improvisation: Principles in Action and in 2022 was recognised with an individual academic award for supervising the completion of a record thirty-three 3rd and 2nd-year films.
 
Completed a Master of Arts Research Degree in 2020 at Deakin University, entitled: “Preparing for “Action!”: an investigation into actor-direction for the screen”.

I am currently studying for a Master of Teaching (Primary) at La Trobe University.

More than 30 years of experience working in front of and behind the camera as an award-winning, technically-minded producer, director, writer, and actor. Solid pre-production, production, and post-production background with a rich blend of experience in digital media, film, and television commercials, accompanied by a track record of developing successful film and video properties. In-depth knowledge of current and emerging video production techniques encompassing performance and camera direction, location and studio shooting, screenwriting, video editing, sound recording, camera operation, scheduling, and budgeting.

  • At the company’s peak, delivered up to three screen acting classes per week, coached actors to achieve compelling screen acting performances, while giving advice on actor-director collaboration, adjusting performance to frame size, ensuring best performance recording, camera familiarity, working with camera marks

  • Taught actors to be open and flexible to direction, make strong acting choices, analyse screenplays, break actions into beats and personalise character relationships to elevate performance to professional levels.

  • Produced over 90 actors showreel scenes, 50 lifestyle videos, 20 acting class videos, 20 corporate videos and 8 music videos

  • Spring-boarded careers of several actors through delivery of professional showreels tailored to clients’ strengths and talents, allowing them to attain talent agents and a leading edge within a highly competitive industry
